After rabid speculation and leaks on the internet about the device, Sprint Nextel has officially launched the Palm Treo 700wx - a slightly modified version of the Treo 700w that has been available on Verizon Wireless for several months.

While one would be hard pressed to tell the difference between Verizon's Treo 700w and Sprint Nextel's 700wx, the smartphone does have a couple of internal differences. The Palm Treo 700wx comes with USB dial-up networking enabled, which allows the owner to use the device as a USB modem for their laptop or PC; a feature Verizon's model lacked. Also notable is the fact that the 700wx comes shipped with the Windows Mobile Messaging and Feature Pack installed, something that required a patch to install on the Verizon Treo.

vibrant mediaOther specifications remain the same, including EV-DO high-speed data, a 1.3 megapixel camera, 128MB of memory (60MB user accessible), SD/IO memory expansion slot, Bluetooth, and a 240x240 pixel resolution 65k color display. The Palm Treo 700wx Windows Mobile 5 smartphone is available from Sprint Nextel now for US$399.99 after a US$100 mail-in rebate and two-year service agreement.
