Today Sprint released a RAZR-thin new clamshell phone, the Sanyo Katana. This new dualband/tri-mode CDMA handset is affordable and makes a statement with its stylish form. The sleek Katana has an appealing design, one not unknown to our friends at Motorola, and will be available in blue sapphire, mystic black, cherry blossom pink, and polar white. The polar white Katana will be sold exclusively at RadioShack.

The Katana comes equipped with a built-in VGA camera that has both a self-timer and digital zoom. Photos can be viewed on the handset's 2.2 inch QVGA TFT LCD screen, or shared amongst friends with Sprint's PCS Picture Mail application. Additionally, you can easily browse the web with the phone's WAP 2.0 browser, or download games and ringtones, all with the help of Sprint's PCS Vision service. The Katana provides T9 text input for fast and easy SMS messaging, and messages can be viewed on the large, 1 inch TFT color external screen when the handset is closed.

Mobile users that rely on hands free options will enjoy other features of note including Bluetooth, a built-in speakerphone, and voice-activated dialing that supports up to 30 contacts. The handset supports a wireless backup system that will allow users to replace any contacts or programs easily if the phone is ever lost or damaged. The Katana will be available starting this month and will cost US$79.99 after rebates with a two year contract from Sprint.
