In what is seemingly a break in tradition for Sony Ericsson, the company has announced a, shall we say, slightly less well-featured handset destined for cheap pre-paid and emerging market sales. Sony Ericsson has stated that it needs to produce more low-end handsets to expand its product portfolio and compete with the likes of Nokia, and this is the manufacturer backing it up.
There is not a whole lot to say about the features of the Sony Ericsson J100, and we could in fact create a rather long story based on what the handset does not have. What is included though, are the basic SMS and talk features (sorry, no MMS here), in an easy to use and attractive handset. Sony Ericsson claim that all key features of the J100 can be access with a single press on the navigation key. The J100 also includes niceties such as an alarm clock and a calendar.
The Sony Ericsson J100 will be available in three versions - the J100i for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific, the J100c for mainland China (both dual-band 900/1800MHz), and the J100a for the Americas (dual-band 850/1900MHz). The Sony Ericsson J100 should ship Q2 this year.
